Tahoma girls roll up 91 points, run state record 4x100

The kid brothers of Matthew Maton and John Dressel both has big showings at the WIAA Championships in Tacoma on Saturday. 

Camas sophomore Daniel Maton doubled 4:11.24 and 1:53.46 in what amounted to a breakout performance. Mt. Spokane senior Hayden Dressel won his first state title in the Class 3A 1,600 meters with 4:15.94 and finished second to Lincoln (Tacoma) junior James Mwaura in the 3,200. 

Sophomore Taylor Roe of Lake Stevens was spectacular in the Class 4A distance races -- sweeping the 800 (2:11.09), the 1,600 (4:54.86) and the 3,200 (10:44.26).

The Merriwether sisters of Union left a dominating footprint on the 4A meet. Dai'lyn Meriwether ran 11.72 for second in the 100 meters behind Aliya Wilson of Tahoma's meet record 11.55, she won the 200 (23.73) and twin Jai'lyn was second in the 200 (24.10). Jai'lyn won the 400 (55.36). Union also won the 4x200 and the 4x400. 

Those four victories -- and 56 points -- were not enough to win the team title. 

Wilson's Tahoma team racked up 91 points to win the Class 4A girls title. Mead needed just 39 points to win the 4A boys crown.

In addition to her fast 100, Wilson led Tahoma to an all-time state record 46.07 prelim time in the girls 4x100 relay and 46.62 in the final. She was third in the 200. Her sister Alisha placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

Class 2A sprinter Rodrick Fisher of East Valley (Spokane) ran 10.49w/21.27w in the 100 and 200 finals. Joseph Gauthier of 4A Hanford ran 10.46w and was second to Kemuel Santana of Decatur (21.35w) with 21.43w in the 200.

Shadle Park's Jakobe Ford took attempts at 7-4 in the high jump but settled for a Class 3A victory at 7-2.50 in the long jump. He also won the triple jump with 49-2.25 and the long jump with 23-8.50.

Jelani Heath of Rogers won the 4A girls long jump with 19-10.50w.

Iman Brown of Garfield won the 3A girls long jump with 19-4.25 and alwo cleared 5-8.75 to win the high jump. 

Curtis Stradley of Battle Ground won the 4A boys javelin with 207-3, leading three past the 200-foot mark.

Jordan Oakes of Holy Names Academy won the 3A girls 1,600 (4:50.27) and the 3,200 (10:40.52). She also led her team to the 4x400 relay crown.

Cass Elliott of West Seattle won the 3A boys 300 hurdl3es in 37.11. Jake Ulrich from Eastmont won the 4A boys 400 meters in 47.11.

Eastside Catholic freshman Kate Jendrezak won the 3A girls 800 meters in 2:10.99.

Matthew Watkins of Henry Jackson ran 9:16.09 to win the 4A boys 3,200 meters. He was a close second to Maton in the 1,600.

Class 2B - Northwest Christian (Colbert) boys 77, Northwest Christian (Lacey) 90

Class 1A - King's boys 67, Lakeside girls 51

Class 2A - Ridgefield and Cheney boys 48 (tie), Sehome girls 57.5

Class 3A - Mt. Spokane boys 81, Garfield girls 72

Class 4A - Mead boys 39, Tahoma girls 91
