Janke gains 3A titles, N. Central school record

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Justin Janke was the next man up for North Central (Spokane) after the consecutive graduations of NXN champions Kai Wilmost and Tanner Anderson.

It was a daunting task, but Janke took it to heart and worked hard. And thanks to a big performance on a blustery day at the Washington state meet in Tacoma, it's Janke that owns North Central's school records in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

The Washington State-bound senior ran 8:55.96 a day after clocking 4:07.69 in the 1,600. He won the Class 3A titles in both events. Janke broke the school record in the mile earlier this season at the Jesuit Twilight Relayss in Portland.

"It's kind of crazy," Janke said. "After cross country season (two years ago), Kai was injured and went to state off of two weeks of training. And to have a faster time than Tanner, that's really cool. They're really greata athletes. I didn't live up to the height of what the accomplished, but in track I got the school records."

The times could have been faster if not for buffeting winds on the homestretch, particularly on the homestretch.

Janke plans to fly to the Portland Track Festival the morning after his graduation. He also has the Brooks PR Invitational on his radar.

Here are some of the additional highlights from the Washington state meet:
